So I neglected to note that the next dunk tank test is May 31, which turns my 28-day challenge into 35. That’s alright I guess, but I’m going to take a sabbatical for Memorial Day. Hopefully at a month in I’ll be pretty satisfied with the results and make an extra effort for three days of indulgence during the last week.
The challenge has been a little more challenging this week. It’s the second week of our pledge drive at WABE (of course you’re a member already), and we get catered “breakfast” (muffins, bagels, cinammon rolls) and lunches. I just have to stay out of the studio and I’m alright.
Eh, but that was only really true on Monday. One thing I have noticed in the short time is that I feel less gross. My stomach doesn’t make noise during the day, I feel less bloated when I wake up in the morning, and I have more energy late in the day. So the cravings have kind of been diminishing as I just feel better.
Every Wednesday for the last couple of years, I weigh myself. This has given me that little reward or warning boost that I usually need to get out the door and do something. This morning, after three *successful* days of diet change, I did it again. And the results show I’ve lost over five pounds since last week, but gained a percentage point of body fat. What? I know the scale is pretty accurate because it gave the same results as my dunk on Sunday.
Whatever it is, five pounds down and a percent up is … odd, I guess? I’m not as shocked by the weight loss as it might warrant, a drop like this is pretty normal whenever I change anything about my diet or exercise routine. When I quit alcohol I immediately dropped 10 pounds. Weird to me is an increase in fat. But whatever, it’s three days in.
Daily feedings have been like this:
7:30 a.m. – 3 eggs & 3 bacon strips, organic and all that, eggs cooked in bacon grease (this doesn’t sound healthy when I write it down, but it’s in the handouts!) It’s easy, delicious, filling, and because I had to bring it with me today, now my car smells like bacon (bonus!)
10 a.m. – Banana
1 p.m. – Apple
3 p.m. – some kind of salad or snack on nuts
6:30 p.m. – delicious dinner of salad, vegetable, meat thanks to my live-in cook. Last night I had roast pork, grilled broccoli, salad with fruit and nuts.
9 p.m. – Nuts. Yeah, I still have to snack late, but pecans are not a cupcake, so I figure that’s good?
Yesterday I stopped and bought some snacks to get through the day. Lunch is really my weakness, 10″ subs smothered in everything, along with chips or fries and a coke. Today it’ll be jerky or (and) almonds with cranberries. Eating healthy is expensive. And I just remembered I forgot my fancy salad, so it’s jerky and nuts for lunch.
There was a downpour at 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday, and I didn’t make it to Fitwit, so now I’m committed to going tomorrow and Friday. Maybe that’ll melt this extra adipose tissue. This I guess might be the “and” part of “diet and exercise”. Both work together better than either on its own. 32 days to go.
