CPAs and Social Media Presentation

Friday, May 21st, 2010

I gave this presentation at the First City Club on May 19 to the Savannah chapter of the Ga. Society of Certified Public Accountants. The talk is an introduction to social media and how they may use it in practice and promotion for their firms. You can see the slides at Slideshare.

The video I show in the beginning is “Social Media Revolution 2,” from Socialnomics on YouTube. It’s a great perspective on adaptation rates of various technologies and the powerful reach of social media in context.

I didn’t do any editing, it’s all in there. About an hour long. Enjoy!

The Trial, by Facebook

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

This morning I signed in to Facebook and saw the message attached here. They say one of my pages had violated their Terms of Use (TOU). Facebook does not give any information on what the “violation” may be, how to reinstate the page, or even which page they’ve removed.

After investigating, it appears they’ve removed the SCAD Lacoste page. This may be due to some infringement claimed by the Lacoste clothing company. Or at least that’s the only explanation I can come up with.

Digging around on various message boards I was able to find a contact email, appeals@facebook.com. I wrote to that address explaining that there were no TOU violations and asking to have the page reinstated. There was no information about this, the reinstatement mentioned in the warning, or any help at all in Facebook’s own “help” or FAQ sections.

I’ll post when this is resolved. Facebook is notoriously unresponsive to complaints and has less than stellar customer service, so I am not holding my breath.

I hope this never comes up for you, maybe this will help.
